Connecting Your Shelter System #
PetMatchPro integrates with three shelter management systems. This guide covers how to find your API credentials and connect each one.
PetPoint #
PetPoint uses an XML-based API that requires a single API key.
What You Need #
- API Key — Provided by PetPoint when you set up API access
Where to Find Your API Key #
Contact your PetPoint account representative or check your PetPoint admin portal for API access credentials.
How to Connect #
- In your WordPress admin, go to PetMatchPro > General Options.
- Select PetPoint from the Integration Partner dropdown.
- Enter your API Key in the Partner API Key field.
- Click Apply Changes.

AnimalsFirst #
AnimalsFirst uses a JSON-based API with an API key and optional API source setting.
What You Need #
- API Key — Provided by AnimalsFirst
- API Source (optional) — Required for some AnimalsFirst configurations. Requires Junior license.
Where to Find Your API Key #
Contact AnimalsFirst support or check your AnimalsFirst admin dashboard for your API credentials.
How to Connect #
- In your WordPress admin, go to PetMatchPro > General Options.
- Select AnimalsFirst from the Integration Partner dropdown.
- Enter your API Key.
- If applicable, select your API Source (Junior license required).
- Click Apply Changes.

RescueGroups #
RescueGroups uses a JSON-based API and requires both an API key and an Organization ID.
What You Need #
- API Key — Your RescueGroups API key
- Organization ID — Your unique RescueGroups organization identifier
Where to Find Your Credentials #
- Log in to your RescueGroups account.
- Navigate to your account settings or API configuration section.
- Your Organization ID is typically visible in your account profile or dashboard URL.
How to Connect #
- In your WordPress admin, go to PetMatchPro > General Options.
- Select RescueGroups from the Integration Partner dropdown.
- Enter your API Key.
- Enter your Organization ID.
- Click Apply Changes.

RescueGroups supports adoption listings only. Lost/found search is not available for this partner.
Verifying Your Connection #
After entering your credentials, visit your search page (or create one — see Creating Your First Search Page). If animals display, your connection is working. If you see an error, check:
- Your API key is entered correctly (no extra spaces)
- Your shelter system has active animal records
- Your internet connection allows outbound API calls from your web server
